Browsing Posts in Personal

I shouldn’t post something bad about WordPressat a time like this. After all, WordPress turns five today. Don’t get me all wrong. I love WordPress as a blogging platform. There were problems in the begining but the more I got used to it, the better it became.

That was until version 2.5 came along. Suddenly my beloved turned against me. She was like a total stranger. Not only did she had a total make over dashboard. There were some changes which I totally hate. I could no longer drag and drop my widgets from one column to the other. Blogging had became a chore all of a sudden.

What happen to you WordPress? Please bring back my beloved drag and drop function of widget. By the way, Happy Birthday my love.

This tribute had brought me close to tears. To read about the suffering was one thing but to actually be able to see the suffering was so much different. It was so tempting to just pick up the phone and dial the numbers for Mediacorp Channel 8 Charity Show to make a donation but after the old National Kidney Foundation big scandal, I lost faith on Charity Shows that were being board casted on television.

There would always be unscrupulous business man out to make a quick buck in the name of charity but out of good faith, many of us Singaporeans still made a donation. I was both shock and angry to learn from SimplyJean’s article that the amount raised last night by Mediacorp Channel 8 Charity Show would be tax.

This wasn’t the first time such questions were raised by the public. I understood that there were operational costs to be covered. Every artist, camera man and that man on the street who had appeared on the charity show draws salary. But what percentage of the donation would go to those people in need after deducting the operational cost for the show?

Singaporeans were very happy that $9.5 million was raised? Yet would all the $9.5 million reached the needy? I felt that I had to know the actual amount raised after deducting operational cost. If the operational cost is more than half the amount raised, I rather donate through other channels. At least I know their operational costs were so much lower. Moreover I would get to know where did the money went with their annual reports.

Let us skip the middleman and donate straight to the organization that we trust. We can still make a difference by donating. I have donated to Red Cross Singapore China Earthquake Appeal. Have you did your part?

Health is Wealth

The first 2 days of Chinese New Year are often filled with visiting of relatives and eating. All the goodies to eat your fill at every house visit. With fattening food such as love letters, pineapple tarts, peanuts, ba kwa (pork slices) and others, it’s easy to over-indulge.

I have been trying to control myself for those days but fell victim as the warm hosts would often ensure that I had something in my mouth. There goes my plans for some healthy weight loss.

From now on, I have to exercise to regularly to keep fit and lose that extra kilograms that I have been meaning to get rid of. By making myself lose weight, I will gain back my confidence. Being slim has its advantages such as the ease of buying clothes and less health problems.

Health is wealth, we don’t want to be lying in bed due to ailments that came about due to being ourselves not eating healthily and exercising less or none at all. One can’t be too careful about health as being on the heavy side, it does get difficult to get things going sometimes.

While there are various weight lose supplements available, it doesn’t hurt to do my part in exercising and eating more healthily, does it?

This was on the front page of Lianhe Wanbao. In fact it covered a quarter of the front page. I could not make out of the Chinese characters and wondered what was the big fuss on the local blogger Xiaxue. To take up at a quarter of the front page must be something serious.

It turns out that Xiaxue had blog about her sex change in Thailand. That was surprising. I blog hop down to her blog and check it out. Yeah the blog entry was there. It did sound like she had a sex change. Was it all true or just another publicity stunt?

I followed her blog when I had just started blogging and from the way she blog, chances of this being a publicity was so much higher. Guess any Tom, Dick and Harry would know that by now. After the Lianhe Wanbao published the entry, she receive quite a number of concern calls from her friends. She did another entry to clarify things.

As a blogger myself I, there was nothing wrong in creating frictional entries for her readers. In fact I believed her for just a second. But did this piece of frictional blog entry deserved to be on the front page of the local newspaper? What happened to the more important news headlines like the revamp of the public bus system?

Are Newspapers running out of worthy news to be published? Do you think this piece of news about Xiaxue sex change deserved to be on the front page?

I was getting bored of my 3 years old ipod nano and was thinking of getting a new mp3 player. Just as I was shopping around, an email came informing me that I was picked by Ripplevox to take part as a trial user for Samsung latest range of MP3 players.

I was both shocked and amazed by the technology that this baby came with. The YP-T10 came with Bluetooth function. That means no more wires! How cool can that be.

Design And Colour

Samsung YP-T10 comes in 5 colours namely Midnight Black, Mystic Purple, Maple Red, Lime Yellow and White Cloud. Since I was just a trial user, no bargaining chips here. I would prefer a White Cloud actually.

The trial set comes with a Bluetooth Headset SBH500

Samsung YP-T10

Functionality

The T10 is also equip with a 2-inch colour LCD display which seems to be the norm for MP3 players. Comparing with Ipod Nano, I would still prefer the design of Nano. The edges are kind of rough when handling it.

Did I mention that the T10 lets you play movies on it? A full charge lets me use up to 30 hours of music and 4 hours of movie. Nice huh?

Instead of a scroll wheel like the Nano, T10 comes with touch sensitive keypad commonly found on mobile phones. High tech enough?

Pair with the Bluetooth headset SBH500 and I can control the playback via the Headset while the T10 is safely inside my pocket.

Improvement opportunities

There is still room for improvement in terms of design. It’s shape is unique but the edges are rough to touch.

Overall Likes & Dislike

I am seriously consider this as an alternatives to Ipod or Creative. The functions that I cannot live without are available in T10. Bluetooth, Radio, Able to play Movies and Touch Sensitive keypads. What more can I ask for?

Oh well maybe just reduce the sensitivity of the keypad. It is just too sensitive. Many times I move to a different menu on the T10 without me knowing.

Did the SMRT driver actually saw a phantom ghost jumping onto the tracks of Kranji station on Christmas day or a vision of some sort as he was pulling into the station? Was there really a phantom ghost replaying their own death? This piece of news was never reported in detail on the Straits Times. Just a small write out on their online portal.

TWO MRT stations in the north on Tuesday were disrupted following separate reports of a man’s fall onto the tracks.

At 9.43am, the southbound train service between Yew Tee and Woodlands was disrupted when the train driver spotted someone falling onto the tracks at Kranji station, a Singapore Mass Rapid Transit spokesman said.

The authorities could not find anyone after an extensive search of the area.

Normal train services resumed at 10.53am, but within minutes, it was disrupted again when witnesses saw a man fall onto the tracks at the Marsiling MRT station, one stop away from Kranji MRT station.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, lost part of his leg after being hit by the train and was rushed to National University Hospital.

Source from Dec 26, The Straits Times online portal.

Are they hiding something from US? This piece of news had caught the attention of blogger, Simon Tay of Singapore Paranormal Investigator (SPI). He speculated some possible reasons why the body of first victim was never found.

  1. Ghost appeared that indirectly gave “warnings”
  2. Ghost appeared that re-play their own death
  3. Ghost appeared to take more victims
  4. Another guy that happened to fall into the MRT tracks but might have enough time to move himself to avoid the train and climb back up without anyone knowing.
  5. Mass hallucination of all those at the platform and video cameras might catch nothing in the tapes.
  6. The MRT official got too tired and see wrongly.

What other possible reasons can you think of?

Christmas, it is a guys worst nightmare coming true. Well at least for me. The two of you have been dating for quite awhile now. Choosing that special gift gets more challenging with each passing year. What should you get her this Christmas? You already got her that Gucci handbag, that expensive diamond ring which comes with matching earrings and braclets.

Fear not! Thanks to Youtube. I now have the perfect gift for that special someone!
