May I suggest you look into the Bosch SKT5102 which is designed for smaller kitchens? It's about the size of a large microwave oven and can just sit on the benchtop. My dad sounds like your dad, left with the responsibilities of washing up. So now he just loads the dishes, or we all help load our own dishes and cutlery, push a button and off he goes to watch TV after a meal. Everyone's happy!

See my review http://www.ciao.co.uk/Bosch_SKT_5102__Review_5711994 for full details of its operations, and pros and cons.

A year after writing this review, the dishwasher is still going strong, though the electrical retailer (Best Denki) has closed shop in Melaka (Malacca) - guess they didn't sell enough to keep up with the expensive rent. BTW RRP in Malaysia is RM1999, you should be able to get 10% off at least. I also saw this model sold in Shanghai and HongKong under the "Siemens" brand.

Let me know what you think. Can also send you the link for instruction manual etc. so you can review before you buy.
