I hope I don't offend anyone here by saying this, but the newspapers in Singapore as a whole run stories that wouldn't make the second half of an American paper. I think the problem is the lack of newsworthy activity in Singapore, which is by NO MEANS a bad thing, since much of what is considered newsworthy is acts of violence and human atrocity. So, newspapers in Singapore turn to gossip and sensationalism to maintain sales, which is a smart business move, but is detrimental to the world view of the readership.

What really surprises me about Xiaxue, more than anything else, is the amount of people that visit her blog regularly and lap up her senseless, shallow garbage.

And what's even worse than that? The fact that she's being archived by the NLB. There HAVE to be better things, and better people, with more thoughtful, interesting, cultural, thought-provoking, and influential writings for the NLB to focus on cataloguing. Just because the newspapers have fallen prey to sensationalism doesn't mean the government should do the same.

If this were the US, I wouldn't even blink at hearing that someone like Xiaxue was being recorded into the Library of Congress, because that's just how it is in America, but this is Singapore. Singaporeans as a whole seem to have a higher sensibility when it comes to order and what's acceptable, not to mention they seem to have a higher degree of national pride than the average American, which is admirable. So, how is it that Xiaxue, who makes all Singaporeans look bad to everyone who encounters her blog, is so popular and is even being archived?

If you expect WanBao or Xin Ming (both are evening gossip Chinese newspaper) to discuss serious issues, then you're wasting your money or you bought the wrong newspaper.

If you prefer to read serious news or worthy news, better spend your money to buy Zaobao (morning paper)

There's no way she would have done a sex op in Thailand.
If you look at her pictures she loves herself too much.

But for the local papers to run so much space on it, and not to mention her blog is being archived by NLB...

I used to think she was overrated, but now i think she's got too much power on her hands.

Who's the next up and coming?

Sometimes I can find more than 50% of the news are taken from blogs in Singapore.

In my opinion, I think those free papers are doing a much better job than paid ones.

Chinese newspapers tend to sensationalize news alll the time. IMHO, Xinmin is much worse than wanbao in terms of 'spicing things up'.
