Did Xiaxue Have A Sex Change?

By motd | Jan 19, 2008

This was on the front page of Lianhe Wanbao. In fact it covered a quarter of the front page. I could not make out of the Chinese characters and wondered what was the big fuss on the local blogger Xiaxue. To take up at a quarter of the front page must be something serious.

It turns out that Xiaxue had blog about her sex change in Thailand. That was surprising. I blog hop down to her blog and check it out. Yeah the blog entry was there. It did sound like she had a sex change. Was it all true or just another publicity stunt?

I followed her blog when I had just started blogging and from the way she blog, chances of this being a publicity was so much higher. Guess any Tom, Dick and Harry would know that by now. After the Lianhe Wanbao published the entry, she receive quite a number of concern calls from her friends. She did another entry to clarify things.

As a blogger myself I, there was nothing wrong in creating frictional entries for her readers. In fact I believed her for just a second. But did this piece of frictional blog entry deserved to be on the front page of the local newspaper? What happened to the more important news headlines like the revamp of the public bus system?

Are Newspapers running out of worthy news to be published? Do you think this piece of news about Xiaxue sex change deserved to be on the front page?

Chinese newspapers tend to sensationalize news alll the time. IMHO, Xinmin is much worse than wanbao in terms of ’spicing things up’.

Sometimes I can find more than 50% of the news are taken from blogs in Singapore.

In my opinion, I think those free papers are doing a much better job than paid ones.

There’s no way she would have done a sex op in Thailand.
If you look at her pictures she loves herself too much.

But for the local papers to run so much space on it, and not to mention her blog is being archived by NLB…

I used to think she was overrated, but now i think she’s got too much power on her hands.

Who’s the next up and coming?

If you expect WanBao or Xin Ming (both are evening gossip Chinese newspaper) to discuss serious issues, then you’re wasting your money or you bought the wrong newspaper.

If you prefer to read serious news or worthy news, better spend your money to buy Zaobao (morning paper)
