Hady Mirza Asian Idol 2007 Video Replay

By motd | Dec 17, 2007

Congratulations to Hady Mirza. Wondering who is Hady Mirza? He is the first Asian Idol Winner. He had done Singapore proud by beating 5 other contestants from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Philippine. Many people had express their views that he did not deserved to be the Asian Idol. I could not comment on that since I miss the whole event totally. It sucks that I can only find bits and pieces of last nights Asian Idol Results show online.

So judge for yourself. Do you think he deserve to be crown the Asian Idol 2007?

A deserved Asian Idol, a humble person, have a great appeal, the 4 bias judges should eat their words especially judges from India and Indonesia should not have predicted the winner as a professional since the sms vote counts and they should not be in an international scene anymore as it shows how truly bias they can truly be, music is universal.

  2. Midnight Rocker December 17, 2007 1:18 pm

No. He didn’t deserve it. He sucks. Actually I think he was either the worse or 2nd worse singer last night.

The only reason he won is probably due to those young teenage girls voting for his good looks, but talent and singing wise… he is comparable to my mechanic.

When the judged were ask to name their prediction of who should be the 1st Asian Idol, almost all the judges named Mike (Indon), Jacq (M’sia), and the Filipino Idol (Don’t remember her name). Hady was never on their list. So for him to win was a total mess and once again proving that, the real winner was not chosen last night.

  3. retroelectric December 17, 2007 1:22 pm

All I have to say is: Well deserved.

  4. snowyc December 17, 2007 1:45 pm

They are all winners in their own countries but nobody really stood way out. Anyone of them deserves to win, including Hady, who sang with style, sincerity (1st song) and panache (for the U2 number) and has improved much from his Singapore Idol performances. Nobody expected him to win, including himself, so there was no pressure but I think he did us proud overall.

  5. rockks December 17, 2007 2:06 pm

I think he has a very unique voice plus the looks. Everyone of the idols are already winners only that Asia decided to vote for Hady Mirza. Every idol has different cultures and a very strong singer so its difficult to say who is the best. But I think Hady deserves it(:

  6. ralph December 17, 2007 2:12 pm

actually and honestly speaking he really doesn’t deserve the title.. he sounds like an ordinary singer.. mau from philippines is actually my bet because he posess talent, confidence, and emotions.. while she was singing i was really stoodstill and amaze, how wonderful she is as a singer… she’s incomparable, the best, awesome!.. people who vote for hady are deaf.. maybe.. the malaysian idol jaclyn was also a very good singer but i dont see the emotions and the love of her craft.. all she do is just raising her voice but no emotions at all!.. i know from all people MAU IS THE ASIAN IDOL!

  7. leigh December 17, 2007 2:15 pm

As Ken Lim said after Hady’s 2nd song, the contestant with the best appeal will likely win it, not necessarily the best singer. He is definitely the clearest minded judge of them all and we are the luckiest nation. Haha :D

  8. Zaxkruby December 17, 2007 2:25 pm

Midnight Rocker u belong the Bias judges community , u have no talent , Asia Idol is not Asian singing idol u need all the package to be the Asian idol and MR u had bad taste and bad look even an old not even dare to look at u .

  9. motd December 17, 2007 2:56 pm

In my opinion, they are all winners just like what snowyc put it. Winning the Asian Idol is just another bonus.

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_idol

There are several differences in voting and tabulation between Asian Idol and other Idol shows. Unlike the latter wherein the viewers get to vote for one contestant, the voting procedure for Asian Idol requires viewers to send SMS votes for two favorite Idols, thus allowing contestants to receive votes aside from their respective countries.[6][21]

As consideration on population size among the participating countries, tabulation of votes are done through an “Equal and Even Cumulative Method”, wherein the total votes of each country are converted into percentages.[21][22] The winner was determined through 50% viewers’ votes and 50% judges’ scores.[23]

There are however concerns about the accuracy of this voting procedure. As most if not all voters would have attempted to pair their own favorite with another contestant who in their view was the most unlikely winner so as to give their own singular favorite the most advantage possible (i.e. negative pairing). Under that circumstance, an undesirable effect may be that the unintended negaive votes would actually accumulate to a large number if the majority decided on the same contestant as the candidate for negative pairing. In that event the result could be interpreted as voting for not the most popular idol but for a contestant that viewers believe to be the weakest candidate to become Asian Idol.

Visit http://tinyurl.com/23wv54 for the following quote.

    Quote:
Perci Intalan, ABC 5’s head of Creative and Entertainment Production, told Inquirer Entertainment that the result of the online poll was largely indicative of the contestants’ current standing in the regional contest which is being held in Jakarta, Indonesia for the first time.

“Mau’s closest competitor seems to be Vietnam’s Phuong. Mike, on the other hand, was chosen by Indonesians in a contest among four local ‘Idol’ winners. I heard that Malaysia’s Jaclyn is a superstar in her own country, though.”

    Voting system

“In sum, they’re all strong contenders,” explained Intalan who had seen the contestants’ performance videos in the “Road to Asian Idol” TV special, aired on ABC 5 last Saturday.

According to the web site, viewers will be asked to vote for two contestants to eliminate “population size … as a determining factor. It takes into account any potential national bias.”

The system was formulated by FremantleMedia, “Idol” franchise holder, to ensure a level playing field.

    It’s mathematical, Intalan agreed.

However, he disagreed with the strategy being proposed by some Filipinos in websites and blogs. “To help Mau, they suggest that voters pick Mau as first choice and the weakest candidate as second. The thing is, we have no way of knowing who’s the weakest,” he clarified.

    End of Quote

Now it is quite clear that the majority has a very clear idea who the weakest candidate is.

Asian Idol is supposed to the the coming together of all the idols to celebrate singing prowess, etc. Who ended up as the actual winner is actually of little consequence to us the common people.

But when a faulty voting system just loused things up like this, it’s just … Trying to convince ourselves otherwise when it is less than believable is just difficult to stomach. It is insulting to the intelligence.

I think the ‘Midnight Rocker’ is an honest person. I’m nickname ‘Midnight Cowboy’. Riding a ‘Hayley Davidson’ (30yr old bike). May be we have same type of ‘hearing’ we only listening ‘engine sound’ which musician call it ‘mono tone’. Plse don’t blame group of people like us. We also have problem remember names, but if it is engine sound we know which bike it comes from. Too bad, ‘Midnight Rocker’ you & I should not have watch ‘musical’ shows. We should be watching ‘Racing’ or ‘Motor GP’. By the way, both of us are alike, we got hearing problem due to tuning up ‘loud’ engine daily. Your mechanic, should also go for ‘hearing test’

  13. motd December 17, 2007 5:43 pm

Let’s just be nice when you share your views. Everyone has their own version of who should be the Asian Idol.

  14. edwij December 17, 2007 6:35 pm

Since the very first time of the show, I had a thought that Hady Mirza, having a nice look, would win the competition. I am Indonesian, and I know that Mike, Jacklyn and Mau were equally the best. Hady was nothing compared to the others, but the handsomest of all. If only Indonesia had been represented by Delon, who looked handsomer than Hady (watch him, he looks like the little size of Richard Gere), I bet that Delon would have been the winner even the way he sings is just ordinary.

The lesson is: to be the winner is not always to be the best. Nice look plays a lot important role. Just like in our life, career, and love relationship.

  15. atiqah December 17, 2007 10:22 pm

i love hady and i think hady really deserve it.”MAY THE BEST MAN WIN!!”
    its not about the looks..
its about the attitude and how the person deliver it.whether it is sincere or not.Its not about just wining the competition, its about being qualified too.and aswell, the package.

  16. atiqah December 17, 2007 10:25 pm

&& shut up ” EDWIJ”!! HADY’S GOT THE PACKAGE

  17. Fab December 17, 2007 11:45 pm

It is a contest that seeks the best representative Idol….not the best singer….so looks plays a part too…..Hardy has the complete package…even though he is not the best singer…. He wasn’t the best singer in Singapore too (Johnathon Leong and Matilda were the best singers during the Singapore Idol contest) but Hardy won too….because he also had the looks, the style and the cool-factor which the rest did not had or did not had enough….. Mau and Mike did not have the Idol’s looks….Phuong may have looked too Oriental for 2nd choice votes….the Indian Idol did not sing the English song well enough and closed his eyes too often….Jacklyn sang well and looked good on stage (but does not look as good on the street)…but maybe Hady was more humble and good-looking…. so he won …..despite the fact that he did not deliver well that day…..he actually sang better on his way to becoming the Singapore Idol….. my feeling is Jacklyn would have gotten more votes if she dressed and looked better on the street and was a little-bit more reserved….she sounded pretty classy on stage ….and looked classy too…. but doesn’t looked like an Idol on most occasions….

  18. retroelectric December 18, 2007 3:00 pm

    Hi there motd!

Thanks for the comment on my blog! Nah, my forté does not really lie in art. I aspire to be a famous local writer like Damien Sin, you know?

    Have a nice day!

  19. Midnight Rocker December 18, 2007 4:53 pm

Was my comment too “honest” that it got edited by MotD? haha…

Hey come on man… what’s the point of having a “block” on freedom of speech? Let’s be open and “brutal” with our comments.. after all… it’s our opinion and different people have different opinions… let lose bro…

Now listen… Hady was the lousiest singer on stage (let’s face the fact.. he suck).. but probably the best looking one… so when it comes down to voting… people voted for looks over talent… so he won… I’m not questioning that.. I’m just stating the fact that he was the worse singer there (which many won’t argue with that)…. tat’s all…

And if you can take it… then suck it…

  20. retroelectric December 18, 2007 8:50 pm

Well - Midnight Rocker — in case you’re missing the fact, it is his blog/website as well, and he can choose to delete/edit the comments people leave. It is his right to be able to do that, and that matter alone overrides your “freedom of speech” argument and you were missing the whole point of it.

Anyway, you couldn’t really change that Hady Mirza IS the Asian Idol.

  21. motd December 18, 2007 10:51 pm

Freedom of speech does not give Midnight Rocker the right to insult someone else mother.

Please discuss this issue in a proper manner.

  22. nura December 19, 2007 12:25 am

it seems to be that everybody has got something against hady winning. he did not enter the competition hoping to win. he knew he could not win against tough competitors. but he stayed strong and positive. also, he was being a good sport about it. i think people should cut him some slack. after all, he was not responsible for his win. it is the PEOPLE who voted.

in addition, i think all these PEOPLE should be a good sport and not be sore losers about his win. being an idol does not mean the one with the best vocal. maybe they should have named it ASIAN BEST VOCAL IDOL instead, if u want the others to win so much. better yet, nobody forced any of u to vote him (supposedly the weakest) for ur second choice. u should have known that if ur voting for the hady coz he’s the weakest, many would do that too. hence, causing hady to win.

i seriously think that people from the other five countries have not shown their graciousness over their non-win. i did not say ‘over their loss’ because non of them lose. it’s just that they did not all win. get over it. there are more important thing to worry about.

  23. [...]After my first entry on Hady Mirza, many comments were left by both supporters and non-supporters of Hady. Some of the comments and [...]

  24. Midnight Rocker December 19, 2007 10:03 am

    RetroDude… I KNOW it is his blog… geez for crying out loud… I think you’re missing the point… but anyway… doesnt matter…

Yes… I cant take away that Hady is the 2007 Asian Idol… thats a fact… and I cant take away the fact that he sucks as well… but who’s calculating right?

MotD?… I insulted someones mother eh?.. hehe… sorry…. maybe you should have put a *censored* somewhere there and leave the other comments untouched… but then again… you’re the boss here and you run the show… so no argument (but you gotta admit… it’s fun having some controversy here)…

Nura… YES I KNOW HE WONT THE TITLE OF ASIAN IDOL (HELLO??)…. I AM JUST SAYING HE SUCKS AT SINGING BUT HE WON… THATS ALL I’M SAYING?…. I thought you guys are supposed to be open minded about these things?…

  25. motd December 19, 2007 10:19 am

    @Midnight Rocker

It’s a reality show. Being talented doesn’t make you a winner instantly. That is the sad part of show biz. If you look pretty or handsome, chances of winning are higher.

Talent only exist in talent shows not reality shows. Hady is the winner and nothing that we say or do now is going to change that.

  26. nura December 19, 2007 12:19 pm

i am open minded about it. i was just angry at people’s response. there is no call for insults.

but my point is, yes, he did not have the best voice. but give him points for being a good sport about it. and also, no matter how much u might hate it that he wins, i guess there should be a certain amount of respect given to him.

yes, i thought that it was a little unfair that he won. jac had an awesome voice. along with mau and mike. but it is a competition after all.

  27. Midnight Rocker December 19, 2007 2:01 pm

Now you see Nura… I totally “loved” your latest response… I think it was brilliant the way you put both the good and bad points together… I give you a 100% for a comment/response like that… cause now it puts me in a position where I wanna say something bad… but cant… ;)

MotD… Thanks for the opportunity to create some waves in your blog… and I think you handled it with great respect as well…. awesome stuff…

Anyway… the reason I’m saying the things I am about Hady is not because he is Singaporean… if he was a Malaysian, Indonesian, Filipino, etc… and if had won I would have said the same thing…. he sucks at singing… cause I think I sing just like him…. but again… the fact is.. he won and there’s nothing I can do about it… but my point again… Looks got the better of Talent…. thats a fact of reality TV show…

I mean.. look at William Hung… with a face like that… even if he had the voice of Rod Steward… it aint gonna make him World Idol I should say…

  28. Zaxkruby December 19, 2007 6:57 pm

That the problem with u MR u just can’t except the fact, the audience has the say the rule has been set the winner has been announce u should give some credit to the winner everyone wants to win so badly for their country even the judges trying to play some dirty trick but it doesn’t work. The cool part of Hady he kept smiling, being the one who had the most unfair critics from some of the judges who never tries to give word of encouragement. Hady stood calm he just sang his song and enjoy entertaining the crowd, he knows he’s a small nation but he show u he can win big.

The audience saw this cruelty so credit goes to Hady’s .

Yeah… u just think u better than him and that doesn’t give u the wright to compare him with your mechanic cause you are the one who sound like your own mechanic. Now what u looking for sympathies from lady .

    @nura

I wonder how many of us would actually still remember Hady a year down the road when everything had settle down.

How many of us here would remember Hady the first Asian Idol if no record company are willingly to groom him. He would just fade with time like many others before him.

  31. nura December 20, 2007 1:35 am

all i can say is, let it go. it’s over and done with. no point getting angry over it. people can either support him or not. it’s their choice. i’m guessing he’ll ade with time unless he’s strong enough to go against the odds to really pursue singing.

watching the reactions of people over this first season of asian idol, i’m not sure i want them to hve season two of it.

  32. Zaxkruby December 20, 2007 10:11 am

It’s not our say Nura ,every human being make mistake , let us learn a lesson from this first seasoned as we go on we’ll improved we become a better person interm of organisation as well as individual, rest of us will be mindful in future when give critics not to hurt anybody whether directly or indirectly , critics shuld have motivation factor in oneself and nation building.
If we put a full stop to this then we be a loser forever .

  33. nura December 20, 2007 11:17 am

well, for now, let’s just see what the producers, music company and all will do with hady. hope he will do well for his sake.

  34. motd December 20, 2007 4:12 pm

There is bound to be season 2. This is making money and I mean lots of money for the companies.

Every since the American Idols took America by storm, there were so many idols contest in Singapore. Eg. for channel 8 and U, there’s Super idol, Super band etc…

  35. Midnight Rocker December 21, 2007 9:24 am

Oh no… just came back from the holidays and SuckMyBurit comes back to haunt….

    MotD… good point… I’ll give Hady 1 year max… and he’ll fade away…

And I’ll leave it all behind now… no point arguing… after all… my favourite show is coming up in January… HEROES SEASON 2!!!!….

  36. motd December 21, 2007 9:48 am

    @Midnight Rocker

  37. Midnight Rocker December 21, 2007 1:28 pm

MotD…. you finished Heroes Season 2? Downloaded? yeah… i thought of following it on air… but then again.. might miss few episodes here and there…

    So might consider downloading….

    Disappointing?

  38. motd December 21, 2007 2:43 pm

    @Midnight Rocker

I wouldn’t dare to download in case the companies decided to sue me. Watch it online with those online players.

  39. Midnight Rocker December 21, 2007 3:31 pm

    motd…

Where do you watch it from? Can give me the link?

  40. dave December 23, 2007 7:21 am

Indonesia did mistake by sending Mike instead of Delon. Mike is the best singer but not the best idol. Delon has more chance to win the Asian Idol. Delon’s debut album got two platinums just one month after released. Delon also has proven that after four years he still exist and still the most popular idol.

  41. mail December 25, 2007 6:26 am

Hey…Delon n all winner’s the indonesia idol are best, but just 1 person to road Asian idol, so Indonesian people & the judges agree ’bout that, there’s no mistaken. Mike performance very good, i think best ever seen on TV,incredible (listen what the judges say ’bout Mike, perfect!) But of course just 1 person can be the 1st Asian idol, and Asian choose Hady, that’s fair enough, don’t blame anything. All contestant in Asian Idol are great, all of them. Pliz stop complain, maybe the next asian idol will be better, more quality than before, and i hope Asian people always accept & appreciate for next the winner is. Just Fairplay. They’re champion in every country. I like all idol, very appreciate 4 them. But Mike is the best coz i’m from indonesia, but Hadi is the winner, so gud luck 4 his carrier, u r a lucky, God Bless u.

  42. jabba July 21, 2008 2:26 am

hady win becos the people from india and philipines also voted for him. hady came from small population country singapore. people vote can vote two choice. first choice is their country and second choice is of course someone you dont think will win. the someone who dont have chance to win is of course small country singapore. so india and philipines and malaysia all voted for hady as second choice.
