In which direction is the community moving towards as it grow?
By the looks of it, it is heading towards the direction of being an Adult site or the potential to be an Adult site. Why do I say so?
Let us take a look at the top 10 sites today, 12th Nov 2007 and 09th Nov 2007. ( Please click on image to enlarge it. )
Most Popular In The Last 24 Hours On 12/11/07
Most Popular In The Last 24 Hours On 09/11/07
Looking at the top 10 on both days, is Ping.SG an adult site in the making?
Is there a Terms Of Service which restricts the community from submitting such articles? As the community grows bigger each day, such articles would appear frequently. Is the community ready to accept such articles and being label as an Adult Site? Let’s share your views.
P/S: This entry is not targeted at any blogger. I believe in the freedom of speech and the blogger’s right to put up such materials on their own blogs.

Peeps may think ping.sg is sister of sgirls.
Money and sex attracts the most pong.
I hope that’s not the standard we adopt as “quality”.
The question - is the “sex” safe for all. The community will ignore it if they are not into “sex”, but the pings tell us differently. As they said,
The killing stops when the buying stops…
Now I am starting to worry that this entry is treated as an Adult content. Everyone knows sex sells but there should be a limit to this.
As to where does this limit stand, it depends on individual. Ladies showing pictures of themselves or part of the body naked should not appear on Ping.SG That is my limit for a community site.
Such pictures are called pornography!
Thanks for your input. Ping.sg certainly does not tolerate pornographic sites.
Hey uzyn glad to see you drop by.
I am sure none of the pingster wants the Ping.SG to become an adult site. The issue is there all along just that it got magnify recently.
You put “sex” inside one of your title. You get the pongs coming in. Even a title such as: “No porn inside.” I bet with you, you’ll still be in the top 10. But all these sites so far ain’t pornographic sites, they’re just blogs with well, adult text content. Usually there aint much pictures showing naked stuff or whatever anyways.
i agree with you, but it seems that nothing has been done to moderate sexually explicit content. We should ban the term NSFW, after all, blogs are not meant to be platforms to share porn.
I guess to a large extent, those who pong those pings are also responsible for this phenomena.
*shrug*
the best is show which users pong those pings. Wahahahaha!
Maybe Uzyn you should add a community censorship link such as “Report this” to the post. Or, you can create an adult version of Ping.sg and run even more ads. You can create a huge kingdom with sub-domains such as tech.ping.sg, adult.ping.sg, politics.ping.sg, etc.
Confirm guys lor. I admit when I see “interesting” topics, I just right click and open in new tab. No harm, it’s catchy information.
But yeah it gets sick when most top posts are about penises, dicks, sex or what nots.
Ping.sg is a portal for youngsters to easily gain sex-related articles on the web. What more, local flava!
motd, thanks for picking this up. This topic has been twirling in my mind for sooo long. Yep, I’m kinda afraid that pple might think that ping.sg is a “recommendation site” for porn, sex, whatever.
It is true that sex sells, but I feel that there should be a limit to it. There are some blogs that hit top10 almost daily due to post with a “sex” related topic in it. Is that what ping.sg’s chart want to reflect as top 10 most read or most popular entries?
I check my blog stats at least once in every 2-3 days. Some of the readers that come into my blog and redirected from ping.sg and are not locals. Is that the image we want show as a whole to “outsiders” that Singapore bloggers or readers are “perverts”?
Sigh, but then again, more hits equals to more page loads, equals to more money from adsense, advertlets, nuffnang, etc… Maybe that is why these “sex” posts are up…
Funny that you’re just looking at the top 10. Yes, it does reflect the undertones of an community that is willing to game the system by having borderline NSFW titles and materials.
If you drill down to the list of posts, you’ll see a large portion of them being commercial in nature, either with attempts to do their own sales online, or via the internet marketing cohorts.
This observation could just be a combination of both.
well, sex sells for sure. be it radio, tv, print and now blogs. though it’s irritating, there’s nothing we can do about it. let’s just wait and see how sex these bloggers can talk about. my prediction? not very long before they fall flat on their face! heh!
